The challenge of taking a Bahamian themed market and deli and making it work in an upscale residential area in the deep South presented great opportunities to start a new concept from the concrete to the rafters. The Kalou’s concept was developed by looking at the real world of day-to-day life of the islanders that wasn’t part of the tourist cliché’. The rough textures and distressed surfaces from weathering of the sun and surf were combined with touches of the old South to create an inviting and engaging environment and brand.
The process of developing the environment and brand for Kalou’s began with an intensive amount of immersion in the real world of the owner and his families’ long history in the Bahamas. This was the foundation of the brand look and feel as well as the tactical driver for the interior aesthetics.
