James Walker’s painting “Battle of Lookout Mountain” from the battle of Chattanooga is interpreted through an interactive touch screen program. The massive 30 foot wide painting was carefully digitized using a custom rig that moved over the surface of the painting and captured images of the painting in sections. These sections were assembled into a massive digital file that allows the visitor to explore the painting from a full view down to the grain of the canvas.
The interactive program is part of a larger exhibit at the Chattanooga Visitor Center. The program interprets the Walker painting as well as other artists and photographers from the Civil War.
